A few ways to save a little money:

If you take sandwiches to work wrapped in "wax wrap" paper, keep the paper and re-use it the following day - and perhaps the one after that too. That would at least halve your payments for wax-wrap.

Ladies, don't get rid of any lipsticks unless there is literally nothing left. Use a cotton-bud (AND keep it for re-use) or a lipstick brush to get out the last bits, and apply with the same cotton-bud or lipstick brush. If you're not particularly fond of a color you've bought, try to mix it with another colour to complement for your outfit.

Mend your clothing - especially underwear - when it starts to tear or gets a little hole. You could get another six months' wear out of a single item.

Cook some vegetarian meals made with with chickpeas, beans or lentils. Add vegetables in season, and just a little meat if you like. This can all be done in one pot, saving money on electricity and water for washing.

Now, when your child tells you his school is asking for charity money you have already saved it!

These are great tips! I still haven't given up my cable, but it is our one family splurge. We Tivo shows and movies for the children and for ourselves. It is definitely a splurge and if I needed to tighten the reigns, this would be the first thing to go.

We do all the other stuff though- go us!

I love the W4 calculator. I think I am going to get a large return this year. It says I shold be claiming a lot more allowances, which I suspected. I am definitely having the tax guy help figure out exactly what I should claim based on my tax return. Thanks for the tool!

Without a doubt, cut the cable. It's amazing how many people will complain that they're having trouble making ends meet or they can't save money but have a $100 a month cable bill.

Priorities people!
