don't tip the pizza delivery man
in fact, don't order his pizza in the first place

you can make a much better pizza at home for a lot LOT less, and depending on when you order (i.e. peak hours), it can take about the same time!

dough recipe-

3/4 cup warm water packet yeast tsp sugar
let sit for 5 minutes

add to 2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 3 tbsp olive oil

mix well, let rise, seperate into 3 or 4 balls, knead and flatten, top, bake @ 450 for about 20 minutes

the dough balls can be frozen, and thawed out whenever you want!

you can also get creative with the ingredients- pesto instead of tomato sauce and some big, plump shrimp. you'll think you're at some fancy restaurant!

[...] Most people consider sit-down restaurants and fast-food establishments in separate categories. Certainly, fast-food restaurants cost less, but they are not as economical as eating at home or packing a lunch for work or school. Still, if your family’s idea of an occasional treat is eating somewhere else and not having to do dishes, you might want to consider a fast-food dinner for one at a sit-down “family” restaurant.
Great list! I feel better after reading it because my wife and I do most of these things. The first tip is a great one.

I always feel that if I'm paying for a meal, I want to eat it! But if it's not sitting there staring me in the face I'm less likely to eat all the extra calories.

I added your feed to my Netvibes page. Look forward to reading more.

Some restaurants will gladly serve you a half serving of an entree for half the price, plus a small fee. My favorite restaurant does half plus one dollar. They don't do it for all entrees (hard to split filet mignon) but for most they do, like salads, pasta, and other splittable dishes. It never hurts to ask anyways! Then I'm saving money, avoiding temptation, and not wasting any food.

Excellent tips!
I have left "to-go" boxes at restaurants so many times, it's not even funny! Even worse, I once forgot about a box in my car (it slid under the driver's seat). You can't believe how nasty that smells after awhile. Yuck!
I often plan on eating less to save some for a future meal, but I like the idea of splitting it at the beginning much better. Sometimes, I have every intention on making two meals out of it, but end up eating more than I should have.
Again, excellent tips. I really enjoyed this article :)

Thanks for contributing these kinds of tips instead of the typical "Don't go out, cook all your meals at home" bit.

Well done.

Great tips, especially the last one about tipping.

I've been both a waiter and a delivery person and, yes, I was trying to get out of debt.

You don't know what it's like until you've done it and now I'm a very generous tipper.
