One night I was sitting watching TV and drinking beer in my tiny, disgusting, white trash apartment. And I heard humongous crash of shattering glass one evening. I figured one of my white trash neighbors was breaking into my apartment to steal something. No problem, ends up that I always have a broken bottle of Lone Star Light in accessible reach in order to defend against intruders, so I went to hunt them down.

Ends up my computer desk top made of glass suddenly shattered, spontaneously, sending many thousands of pieces of glass all over the floor, not to mention all of my computer equipment.

I don't put A/C (don't believe in it) so it always 110 or 120 degrees inside. I think heat causes glass to shatter. I kept finding shards of glass years later.

Con cuidado, amigo ...

Luckily, we've never run into oven problems. But you're right that we should be prepared financially for one anyway.

And thanks for your great comments about Monster Storytime. I love to hear when Dads get in on the story fun, especially with the voices. Dads just seem to do those better than Moms!

YIKES! I have never heard of this happening, exploding glass oven panels. As a kid, when my mom baked cookies, I used to sit in front of the oven watching the dough rise. I can imagine many children do this in sweet anticipation of cookie goodness. I'm so happy to hear your family is safe from flying glass. Emergency funds are replaceable...loved ones are not. Bless.

Thank goodness nobody was hurt. My husband and I are on a journey to being debt free and a friend suggested your blog to me. I really enjoy reading it! It's especially interesting to me to see a man's point of view.
