Fab Five – The Big Give Edition

I have come across several great articles over the weekend and wanted to share just a few with you this afternoon.  It seems like bloggers are really pooling their resources this year to lend a hand to charities and other organizations in need.  I think that is great, as the power of collective audiences could make a real difference.

The Fab Five

The Big Give is Delivered.   A few weeks ago I mentioned Amy’s effort to host a Big Give for a shelter in her area.  I’m pleased to pass along news that the Big Give was delivered!  Amy even has some video footage here.  Just amazing! (@Mom Advice)

Giveaway: Nominate Your Favorite Charity.   Nominate your favorite charity on this post and Jeff will contribute up to $500 – one dollar for each comment received!  Hurry, comments close Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. Central. (@ My Supercharged Life)

The One Dollar Give.  Speaking of “big gives,” The One Dollar Give is now in full swing with bloggers sponsoring a charity each day in the month of December.  A post from Frugal Dad will appear at the One Dollar Give site later this week, so be on the lookout! (@One Dollar Give)

Small Business Stimulus Package Contest.  Entrepreneurs may apply to win a stimulus package offered by finance website, MoneySmartLife.com.  The stimulus package offers a cash reward to one small business along with a business strategy plan to help them through the current economic downturn. (@Money Smart Life)

Skimp on the Unimportant So You Can Spend On What Matters.  This may be my favorite post from Simple Mom, and it is so relevant this time of year. To participate in holiday giving we have scaled back a few Christmas gift ideas, because that is what matters to us.  If you sacrifice just a little on extravagance, you can enjoy a rich quality of life by using your money for things that truly matter. In an effort to save money and still enjoy giving to those in my family and nurturing a generous spirit, my sister and I are giving each other a random act of kindness in honor of one another. So, for example I see some spontaneous moment to help someone somewhere with something on behalf of my sister. On Christmas she’ll open a chocolate truffle and a letter explaining what I did in her honor. I have asked for this gift from my children as well. I love the idea of nurturing their inner generosity. What better gift for a mother?

The One Dollar Give makes me feel good each morning over breakfast. Such a great project.

You should check out Beth from Life on Avenue Z -
    http://www.lifeonavenuez.com/

She’s organizing a food drive amongst her readers. She started out with a goal of 1 ton of food donated to food banks and reached that goal so quickly (one reader donated 1 ton all by himself) that now she is shooting for 2 tons. It’s a great give.

Heather, I love that idea. I will have to keep that one in my “great ideas” hat and try it out.

Wow! Thank you so much for including me in your fab five list- I am so flattered. I have to say that this was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done. Thank you for sharing about it with your readers!
