What a great article. I really like your tip to clean out your car. Having a clutter free environment is key to having a clutter free mind. If your ride into work is cluttered I'm sure your day will be as well. I also like your 90% rule but I have heard it before as the 80/20 rule. Same concept.

Keep up your methodology to simplifying your life.

Cleaning out your car is key!!! I feel at ease after my car is cleaned out and I put in a new air freshener...clearing the clutter from my car also clears the clutter in my mind!

Although some of these may appear common sense, it's always good to hear it again. Thank you!

I like the idea of being a 90-percenter, but how does one go about accomplishing that? I guess the first step is learning to say 'no.'

You know, I never really realize how frazzled I am with a messy desk until I actually take the time to clean it up. It's amazing how much more organized and efficient I am when my desk is clean. Part of my problem is that it's so small, anything pretty much clutters it up. Perhaps I should look into getting a bigger desk.

I really like you idea of the list. I love to-do lists because they help me visualize what I need to get done, but I find my biggest challenge with the lists is that I just throw them on there as they come to mind. I don't take the time to prioritize them and so I end up procrastinating on important stuff. So, for me, part of simplifying my life would be taking more time to prioritize.

Creating lists is a great way to see what exactly you want to accomplish and can cross off what you have already done.

15 years ago quit my job for five years and worked out of my house.
I had three small children at the time and wanted to spend more time with them.
It was by far the happiest years of my life. They grow almost instantaneously, you have to take the time while you can.

Will you make more money by neglecting your family, maybe you will, but if your kids don't even know you have you really come out ahead?

I'm back to my regular work as an engineer now. Maybe I'm a few years behind schedule getting to the top, but the detour was worth it and there was never any guarantee I was going to get rich if I neglected my family
