I heard them talking on the phone and her cousin said her husband handled all the finances...she knew nothing. They also did not have a will in place...3 children under the age of 8 without a dad...I hope she can get a handle on things...she has good family support..We all need a will and a plan for the unexpected. I stayed with her (I live over 5000 miles away) for over three months getting everything straightened out and organized. A word of caution - she received numerous calls from strangers who had 'heard' of my father's death and wanted to help her with her finances. I suspect that these strangers read the obituaries and target people when they are at their most vulnerable. If I hadn't been there, I think my naive mother might have been susceptible to their 'sympathy and understanding' and could have lost everything. WOW...while I'm glad to have one I don't have a 'survivors plan' with accounts and passwords....everyone needs a will and a 'plan' to save their family the EMOTIONAL PAIN that the unexpected can bring. Thanks for the reminder.
