@Money And Risk

You hit the nail on the head with that last statement. I hail from Canada, which gives a good deal of reduction on medical costs. But it's still important to keep tabs for proper coverage, as aforementioned in that article.

But your last sentence is what struck a chord with me, because of it's big time truth. It can take one wrong turn and everything can turn on your head.

The bright side about being into self employment is an adaptable mindset. Employee mindsets tend to create a feeling of routine, but working for yourself and succeeding means being inherently alert for mistakes as well as oppurtunities.

I always found it an amusing misconception that being self employed is the riskiest. Nevermind the fact that as an employee, that you can be cut off from your main income stream by the two words you're fired.

But that's not to say it's without it's risk. Especially with all that responsibility one undertakes. Liberty's a scary thing. But a fantastic thing.

But the best and safest haven I believe is having a multitude of incomes coming from various sources. Mixing active and passive streams, but having passives in there would definitely cushion any fall. How's THAT for safety?

I've got a long ways to go before I can pull that off. But you can bet that I'm propping up my dragon wings to make sure I get in flight!

Frugal Dad..You are an inspiration. I'd like to add that the fact that your working a day job actually may help your readers relate to your posts more. I find that my views are starting to fall out of line with many of the "professional" pf bloggers stories of late...so a very selfish part of me wants you to continue working.

I do value having the extra income to pay down our mortgage and save for kid's education and retirement. Right now, I value that more than my personal freedom for that extra 40 hours/week. I just work to make as much out of the time I do have and search out jobs with as much flexibility as possible.

We're trying to get all these steps handled simply for early retirement. We might have side hustles and we might not, but we definitely know that we need to cut expenses, get debt free, and find benefits before we can permanently retire.

Debt and building my emergency fund are the only thing holding me back from working for myself. But I feel the stars aligned and speed picking up. So, I'm very concious of my spending decisions and am throwing $ in the bank. I'm ready. Bring it on!
